Wolfsword Press Celebrates Chicago Launch of Conclave Journal

Wolfsword Press would like to thank everyone who came out for the Conclave Launch party in Chicago on October 18, 2008. Over the course of the two-hour event, more than one hundred people attended.

Managing editor Scott Markwell was a gracious master of ceremonies, providing the audience with background and introductions. In addition to Scott, several editors were in attendance: founding editor Valya Dudycz Lupescu and her husband Mark, drama editor Mary Anne Rooney, photo editor Megan Fergus, and AV editor Rob Lambert. One of our fiction and photo editors, Jarucia Jaycox Nirula, even flew in from Seattle to attend.

Ken Solomon traveled from California with his wife, and he read his poem, “Elder Statesman.” Chicago actors Heather Bodie and Amanda did a dramatic reading of Kathy Coudle King’s “A Couple of Boobs,” followed by Ryan B. Richey reading his flash fiction pieces “Headstart” and “Belle.” The performances concluded with Petrucia Finkler performing Anne Phelan’s “Tale of the Duck.” Anne was in the audience, having come from New York to attend the launch party.

Everyone enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and drinks prepared by the gracious staff of the Book Cellar and had the opportunity to purchase copies of Conclave Journal.

Guests and staff both commented on the Conclave crowd, impressed by everyone’s enthusiasm and courtesy. In attendance were Chicago writers and performers, supporters of the Arts, and faculty from local colleges. It was a memorable evening, and we hope that everyone helps to spread the word about Conclave: A Journal of Character.
