Hello,
I’m just reaching out to let you know that I read “The Light in the Heart: A Haunting” published in Bourbon Penn this morning.
I found this story particularly touching. My wife and I have been living in our house together (along with our two long-haired cats) for twelve years and I was recently thinking of how strange it is that other people have lived in this same space and how even stranger it is that others might someday live here in the future. Much of how I feel about our house is reflected in your story. The line “No one comes back,” is such a simple sentence but heartbreaking in this context.
Also, I have to say: “They practice fear, looking in your darkest nooks for secrets but finding only the cold.” Is a fantastic description.
Thank you for writing such a darkly beautiful story. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.
Mike
