GEEK PARENTING Chicago Release Party at The Book Cellar!

On Saturday, April 16th, 6pm-8pm, we’ll be having the Geek Parenting Chicago Book Launch at The Book Cellar!

Many of you have been there before and know what a wonderful bookstore it is. We had my The Silence of Trees book launch and the Conclave: A Journal of Character release parties there back in 2008 and 2010.

The owner, Suzy, has been able to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere for families, book clubs, and all manner of literary events. This profile came out in February in the Chicago Review of Books, but it’s worth sharing again to celebrate one of of Chicago’s finest independent bookstores.

I’m really looking forward to being able to celebrate Geek Parenting at The Book Cellar with you!

Today is Release Day for GEEK PARENTING!

“Parenting is hard. It may not be “stop the supervillain and save the entire universe from destruction” hard. But it weighs just as heavy on our hearts. Parenting is what brings us to bookstores for self-help guides and propels us into conversations with other moms, dads, and guardians. Beyond advice about diaper brands and prom protocol, what are we looking for when we ask these kinds of questions? To know we’re not alone. To be reassured that we’re not the only ones afraid of screwing up our kids. To be reminded that even Wonder Woman’s mom made mistakes sometimes.” ~ GEEK PARENTING

Today is release day for GEEK PARENTING: What Joffrey, Jor-El, Maleficent, and the McFlys Teach Us about Raising a Family!

Stephen H. Segal and I are so excited to finally share it with you after all these many months of writing, revision, and preparation! Thank you to everyone who has helped us on this journey, friends and family, and especially the wonderful folks at Quirk Books: Jason Rekulak, Brett Cohen, Rick Chillot, Nicole De Jackmo Valentino, Julie Leung, Moneka Hewlett, Timothy O’Donnell, and Greg Christman, to name just a few.

We’ll be celebrating the release tomorrow, April 6th at the Free Library of Philadelphia and in Chicago on April 16th at The Book Cellar, plus several other cities throughout the year. We hope to see many of you along the way!

There’s an excerpt from the introduction on our website: geekparentingbook.com, if you’d like to take a peek. It’s also a good place to keep up with book signings and upcoming events.

Geek Parenting is a book written with a lot of love for the stories and characters that have shaped us and continue to shape younger generations. We hope that you’ll enjoy it.

Stephen Segal and I talk about our new book, GEEK PARENTING: What Joffrey, Jor-El, Maleficent, and the McFlys Teach Us about Raising a Family, with Armin Brott, a.k.a. Mr. Dad, on Positive Parenting, followed by an interview with Deborah Heisz of Live Happy.

(I like the message of our book covers beside one another. 🙂 We have some interesting overlaps in our books’ messages: the importance of play, finding your tribe, being grateful, nurturing creativity. )
